Exploring Antalya's Cultural Gem: The Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum

Nestled within the winding alleys of Antalya's historic Kaleiçi district, the Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum stands as a testament to Turkey's rich cultural tapestry. Established in 1996 by philanthropists Suna and İnan Kıraç, the museum offers visitors an immersive journey into the traditional lifestyles, art, and architecture of the region.

A Glimpse into the Past

The museum comprises two meticulously restored 19th-century structures: a traditional Antalya townhouse and the former Greek Orthodox Church of Aya Yorgi. These buildings, once in disrepair, were revitalized between 1993 and 1995, preserving their historical essence while adapting them for educational purposes .

The Traditional Antalya House

Upon entering the two-story townhouse, visitors are transported to the late Ottoman period. The ground floor features service rooms leading to a central courtyard, while the upper floor showcases life-sized dioramas depicting scenes from 19th-century Anatolian daily life. These exhibits illustrate customs such as coffee ceremonies, groom's shaving rituals, and henna nights, providing insight into the social fabric of the era .

The Aya Yorgi Church Exhibition Hall

Adjacent to the townhouse, the restored Aya Yorgi Church serves as an exhibition hall. Its vaulted ceilings and painted interiors house a collection of Çanakkale ceramics from the Kıraç family's private collection. These artifacts highlight the artistic achievements and cultural exchanges of the period .

Engaging Exhibitions and Educational Initiatives

Beyond its permanent displays, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions focusing on various aspects of Turkish art and history. Educational programs cater to students and researchers, emphasizing the importance of preserving intangible cultural heritage .
